Everything there works so smoothly that it makes the rest of us Italians look like we still have a loooong way to go. Unions work together in order to provide services to each other, hence maintaining a stable economy. Everything is excellent and top notch, from infrastructure, to retail, to technology, to their absolutely stunning Slow food & beverage culture.
Starting from the apples. Oh, If they have apples. The forbidden fruit by definition is here mixed up with all kind of succulent recipes, the mother of them all being the apple-strudel, of course. But let's not forget the scrumptious apple fritters, or the fabulous risotto with apples & speck (a type of Italian smocked ham, also original from the region).
I had a go at climbing in a gym fully equipped for in-door alpinism, skied through mountains like caster sugar, from which, on sunny days, one could see all the way to the Dolomites, and went around the most beautiful Christmas markets in Merano. They handmake all kind of wooden home decorations that are a miniaturized heaven. The stalls were filled with gastronomical goodies! This was certainly the best way to be acquainted with their street food, a delicious meltin'pot of hot soups, pork & lamb sandwiches, with the most beautiful wholewheat flour bread. A few miles from Merano, and you'll find the most exquisite beer-factory. Frost has been for centuries at the forefront of beer making in the region, and for many reasons. Modern technology and traditional methodology meet in the expert hands of master brewers present at all stages of the production process. In this way all the beers Forst remain unchanged over time with constant quality.
Trentino Alto Adige is also renowned for the industry of yogurt. Their granola is by far the most delicious I have ever tasted. It was incredible to admire the contradiction between sweet little mountain villages and high tech industrial buildings in the same urban conglomerate.
The boutique hotel Miramonti is a gem among the mountains. Klaus and Carmen, a couple of authentic trend-setters, owns it and runs it with the most detailed care you could imagine of. See the main picture posted with that beautiful table in the middle of this dreamy dining room? That's where we had lunch. The very first of 2014. Happy new year to you all!
